Telehealth Frequently Asked Question

What is telehealth and Tele-urgent care?

Telehealth provides care using secure video, phone, or messaging without an in-person visit. It is a way to get medical care by a doctor or medical provider using your phone, computer, or tablet instead of going into the clinic.  Telehealth is used to diagnose and treat common illnesses, provide urgent care consultations, medication refills (when appropriate), offer mental health therapy, manage chronic conditions, review test results, make referrals, provide follow-up care after a procedure or visit

Telehealth is used so you can talk with your provider by video, phone call, or secure messages to get help with common health concerns, follow-ups, prescriptions, and more.

It allows patients and providers to connect through:

• Video visits (most common)

• Phone calls

• Secure messaging or chat

• Remote monitoring tools (like devices that check blood pressure, glucose, or heart rate from home)

Advantages of Telehealth

If you are out of town or too busy with work, the freedom and mobility of telemedicine will help you to stay connected. In addition, if you are too ill to drive, it allows flexibility to stay home and still have access to health care.

Convenient and accessible

Reduces travel time and wait times

Offers quicker access to care

Useful for people in rural or remote areas

Helps prevent exposure to contagious illnesses

No doctors, urgent care and emergency room wait time.

No delays in setting your appointment.

No extra costs due to overhead

You save versus the business saving.

No closing time. You can submit your requests and needs 24/7.

Rarely turned away and told no.

And more

Disadvantages of Telehealth

Not always appropriate for life-threatening emergencies.  Some conditions requiring hands-on examination, imaging, or procedures are not suitable for telehealth.

What is minor urgent care?

A fast, convenient medical treatment for non-urgent, non-emergent illnesses and injuries.

Urgent care is a type of medical service that provides quick, same-day care for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. It’s designed for situations that need prompt attention but aren’t serious enough for the emergency room.

Urgent care online is not a walk-in clinic but an online service where you can get fast medical help for common problems—like colds, flu, sprains, minor infections, or small cuts—without going to the ER or waiting for a regular doctor’s appointment.

Urgent care is used to treat various minor and urgent care conditions such as: colds, flu, fever, minor infections (ear, sinus, throat, urinary, skin), pink eye, minor injuries (sprains, strains), simple cuts, scrapes, and mild burns, mild rashes or allergic reactions (non-severe), mild stomach issues, medication refills (varies with controlled medications)

NOTE: is minor urgent care NOT for treating emergent, life-threatening conditions?

Go to an ER if you have any of the following:

Chest pain or trouble breathing, severe bleeding or head injury, sudden weakness, numbness, stroke symptoms, moderate to severe burns, major fractures, severe allergic reactions, etc

Anything life-threatening, including severe shortness of breath, heavy bleeding, worse headache of you life or head trauma. Call 911 for these emergencies.

It is the practice of taking care of individuals with minor illnesses and injuries who do not need urgent or emergency care.  If you think that your condition is urgent, you should go to the nearest urgent care center.  If your issue is emergent, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

When to go to the Emergency room (ER) versus urgent care (UC) situations?

Brief list of some ER illnesses: Chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, seizure, abdominal pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, weakness, numbness, uncontrolled diabetes, paralysis, motor vehicle accident, slurred speech, signs of stroke or heart attack, loss of vision, severe injury of any kind, moderate to severe burns, severe allergies, fractures,
